This issue of the Indian Journal for the Advancedment of Mathematics Education and research-2004, published on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh Association of Mathematics Teachers (APAMT) is dedicated to the memory of Late Prof. S. Minakshisundaram who was one amongst the famous mathematicians of India during 20th century. Prof. S. Meenakshisundaram glorified the mathematical heritage of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, where he worked in diffrent capacities with distinction. He was affectionately called SMS by his friends,admires and students.

SMS was born on 12th Oct 1913. He had his primary school education ar Perambur, Madras and Intermediate education in Pachaiyappa’s College, Madras. He did his B.A (Hons) programme in the Madras Loyola College, Madras during 1931-34. Later he took up reasearch work in the University of Madras under the guidence of the legendary figure Prof. R. Vaidyanathaswamy. His theses on ”Fourier Analysis and Non-linear parabolic Equations” was adjusted as the best Ph.D. thesis of the university of Madras during the year 1940.
